Description

That book contains no hex, no enchantment. It is merely a copy, written by my own hand. But therein lies the danger. Had you seen the original, you would know the need for caution. Read it sparingly, and never by night. No candle can banish the shadows from those leaves. ~Eldred

My second attempt at bookbinding (the first can be found here: [link] ). Though it's got its flaws, and it's probably not all that durable (as my horrendous stitching in that third photo will show), I'm pretty happy with it overall. The huge word/page count compared to my last physical book meant I had to come up with a new design, and frankly I feel lucky that it opens without falling apart.

The choice of materials is partly down to story significance, partly down to what I had in the house at the time. I actually dyed the fabric myself some time ago: most of it went into a padded jacket. Given the number of werewolves in the book, silver lettering would have been a natural choice, but I thought it would look too Slytherin-y and gold is actually quite appropriate in some less obvious ways.

Once I've gone through and really polished up the writing, I'm planning to bind another, better book, printed on thicker paper and with either a leather or an embroidered cover.

The pages in the last photo are open to a chapter that has been described as being "almost like a self-contained story." I think you'd be lucky to read it, though.

As a final note, the book mentioned in the quote above is not this book. :XD: It just seemed sort of fitting.

Way cool! How does it feel to hold a copy of a book you wrote and bound yourself?
